Food truckers

After hearing (and reading) Diana rave about the Roots Food Truck, I was very interested to try it.  On Tuesday morning we decided that it was food trucking for lunch or bust and we met at their Tuesday location on the corner of Tryon and 3rd Street in Uptown Charlotte.

Diana was conflicted over the two lunch choices, but I was set on the roasted chicken pita.

Roasted Chicken Pita With Grilled Squash and Zucchini, Fresh Greens, Thyme and Basil Aiol

I also had their side of the day:
Mixed Greens, Cucumber, Mint, Strawberry Vinaigrette

Diana chose the same.

The other lunch choice:
Grilled Marinated Flank Steaks With Caramelized Onions, Crispy Tortilla Chips and Chipotle Sweet  Potato Cream

See why the decision was so difficult?

We couldn’t find a table in the shade, so we baked a bit in the sun as we enjoyed our delicious lunch.  Thank goodness I dressed for the hot day!

Now I know why she is a big fan of the Roots food truck.  Consider me converted!

Our food was fresh and delicious.  I loved that they printed (in Expo marker) the name of the farms from where they get their food each day.

Locally grown and tasty food, from a truck?  The Roots food truck is not your typical mobile eatery.

I can see this becoming a lunchtime habit.

So how does the whole food truck scene work?

Food trucks typically work on a schedule but might not adhere to their schedule if the weather is particularly nasty.  Some have websites where they post their location for each day and the menu items.  Some tweet their location to their followers.

Usually their menu is limited (2 main dishes and 1-2 sides), but the menu often changes daily.  Yay for variety!
