I’ve had not one, but two opportunities to hang out at blog-worthy events this week.
And when events are blog-worthy, guess who shows up?
Bloggers! And sometimes their husbands and boyfriends too. ![]()
Grapevine, a local wine bar, just outside of Charlotte, hosts a Charity Guest Bartender night where people can work as bartenders to raise money for their favorite charity through tips. Last Wednesday, Grapevine donated all tips to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
I personally think they should call it “Booze for a Cause”. It has a nice ring to it, don’t ya think?
We were a little later than most because I had a running date, but settled right in to the group as soon as we arrived.
I planted myself right beside Erin and we caught up after not seeing each other for several weeks.
Brad and I had not had dinner yet, so we sprung for a meet and cheese board. Yum, dried figs. Ew, olives.
Of course, there was wine.

Then yesterday, I made a quick stop by the first ever Charlotte Food Truck Rally.
Brittney and Diana also met me there.
Food in trucks is okay by me, but I was there for something very specific…
Charlotte has it’s own mobile cupcake truck!
Southern Cake Queen is owned and operated by Emma Merisier. We’ve been twitter buddies for a couple of weeks now, so I when I found out she would be at the rally, only a few blocks from where I live and work, I knew that I had to try one of her cupcakes.
She posed with us for a quick photo opt, while I tried to decide what flavor of cupcake to try.
Everything looked so good! Not a single flavor that I would turn down. But my belly had room for only one cupcake so I had to make a choice.

And of course, as you might have guessed, I chose the chocolate delight.
I was so delighted in fact, with my chocolate cupcake, that I plum forgot to take a photo. But I assure you that the cupcake I ate looked just like this picture, except instead of chocolate sprinkles, it had chocolate shavings.
The icing was perfection, and believe you me, I am a connoisseur of chocolate icing. Anyone in my family can confirm my credentials. But icing, albeit the most important part of a cupcake, is the easy part. Anyone can cream sugar, butter, and cocoa powder together.
The most important part of a cupcake, and the part most people get wrong, is the cake. The cake in this cupcake was moist, chocolaty, and dense. It was everything I want in a chocolate cupcake. I’m in love.
Now, the trick to this whole mobile cupcake truck is figuring out where she is. Word around town is that most Saturdays, the truck is parked in Southend by Price’s Chicken Coop. (Who doesn’t love fried chicken and cupcakes?) But the rest of the week, I haven’t a clue.
There are two solutions here: a GPS tracker or an anchor – neither of which I’m above trying.
If you had to choose between cupcakes or wine for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

I don’t think I could choose! Do they make wine-flavored cupcakes? LOL. I think I’d go with wine…although I do have my doubts since I’m a massive cupcake fiend. That cupcake looks amazing, by the way. Have a great weekend!
Haha! No, but they make Cupcake wine!
Hope you have a great weekend too!
Yeah, I think I would have to go with the wine too. Having two glasses of wine is way more socially acceptable than having two cupcakes.
I’m so sad I missed you! I hope we get to hang out another time soon!
Me too! I was in such a hurry! We should definitely meet up.
Cupcakes for sure! But, if you told me cupcakes or tequila I may have hesitated. I’m still trying to acquire the taste for wine…
Ha! Tequila and I broke up in college and that’s when I learned to love wine.
Must have just missed you at the rally!! Boo!! I also missed out on the cupcakes, they were sold out by the time I made my way over to the truck. I was so bummed.
I think I was the first person to get a cupcake. I was there when it started. Sorry to rub it in…and I’m sorry I missed you!
Love your new look! Wish I could have boozed for a cause, too. Looks like you ladies (and gents) had a fun time!
Thanks Brittany! You can booze for a cause with us in a few months.
I’ll hold the baby.
Hmm, tough choice. Cupcake wine?
Cupcake with a creamy wine center?
