Busy day and a winner

I’m so proud of myself for getting up early yesterday morning to make time for hot yoga.  I’ve never really wanted to go to hot yoga so badly before, and even though I feel sure that Hal Higdon would say, “never ever do two workouts the day before a long run”, I decided to go with it.

I started off my morning at 6:45 am with a smoothie in a jar.

My pumpkie pie green monster had:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 frozen banana
1/3 cup canned pumpkin
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
1 cup frozen spinach
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1/8 tsp. cloves.

Topped with almond crunch granola.  Blended and enjoyed! 🙂

I also had some hot lemon water.  No coffee for me this early, I needed hydration.  I hardly ever cut lemon for my water, I just squeeze some lemon juice in the water.  You can make out a few seeds if you look really closely.  I hate lemon seeds.  There are about a million of them in every lemon I buy.

I decided to put my smoothie in my Tropical Traditions coconut butter jar.  There was less than half of a tablespoon left, but even I hated to see that little bit go to waste.

I somehow forgot that I had some leftover smoothie that would not fit into my jar.  I threw the jar away before I remembered.  No big deal.

I just finished it off with my spatula. 🙂

After breakfast, I grabbed my things and headed over to Arrichion for hot yoga.  I took the Bloodstone class again, just as I did the last time I went.  It was pretty easy to flow with the moves since I was familiar with them from last time.  However, my push-ups from yesterday’s circuits left my shoulders pretty tired and I had to take several breaks during the push-ups portion of the class.  I didn’t even attempt crow (not that I can do it anyway) because my upper body said ‘enough already’.

Since I was out and about already, I packed a clean sports bra and long sleeve T shirt to change into after yoga, so I could run some errands.  No matter that my pants were soaked through and even after I towel off after hot yoga, I still continue to sweat.  Wouldn’t you love to be standing behind me in the grocery store line?  I’m sure I did not smell pleasant.

I hit up Target for a new shower curtain liner and some odds and ends and swung by Starbucks which is located inside our local Target.  I got a grande Misto with skim milk and then headed over to Trader Joe’s to do some grocery shopping.

I made it home in just enough time, to shower and meet Jennifer for brunch at Dandelion Market.  Jennifer just moved to Charlotte from Australia and has quite a delicious-looking food blog that you should definitely check out.

I ordered the build-your-own sandwich and chose red peppers, red onions, goat cheese, and basil to go in my egg sandwich.  My waitress agreed to ask if I could have my sandwich on whole wheat instead of the usual ciabatta or croissant, and the chef complied. 🙂

Unfortunately, when my sandwich came out, I found that they didn’t include any basil and I’m pretty sure they used white onions instead of red.  Since there wasn’t much they could do about it (besides give me whole basil leaves), I decided to just not say anything.  The sandwich was still delicious.  I ate half of it, then ate just the center of the other half. The pieces of bread were huge!

I also had cup or two of black tea with a little milk.  I wanted something warm, but decided to skip an extra cup of coffee in order to stay better hydrated for my run that afternoon.

Jennifer chose the make your own fritatta.  Let’s see if I can remember what she put in it.  I think she asked for bell pepper, mushrooms, guacamole, and chicken breast.  I love the tiny little skillets they use at Dandelion Market.

During breakfast, Jennifer and I found that we both planned on running that day so we decided to go together.  I mapped out a route in the Myer’s Park neighborhood and we drove out to run six miles.  I felt a little sluggish, probably due to my hot yoga session earlier in the day, but managed to keep a pretty good pace.  It was just so pretty outside.  One of those days that make you want to run as fast as you can.

We finished our six miles in 56:21.  I accidentally hit the start button while trying to adjust my watch, which added on that additional two seconds.  Not that those seconds matter. 😉

Jennifer was a great brunch and running companion, although I quite possibly talked her ears off the entire time.  Clearly, I need to schedule more girl time in my life so I don’t overwhelm the few girls I corner into running with me. 🙂

I completely forgot to snap a photo of us together because I am often a forgetful blogger, but maybe she will pop back up here again soon.

I’m so sorry I never announced the winner of the coconut flakes giveaway yesterday.  My in-laws arrived that afternoon and I scheduled way too many things to possibly do in one day, so blogging got pushed to the wayside.

The winner of the enormous tub of Tropical Traditions Coconut Flakes is…

Brittney!

I’ve never made macaroons but really want to try making them, so that’d be a definite. I think I’d also like to try putting coconut in pancakes sometime. Yum!

I swear this was not rigged.  I used a random number generator and everything, as I usually do.  Although this does work out in my favor.  Brittney, I’m holding you to those macaroons and a few of them better have my name on it. 😉  Maybe we can learn how to make them together.
