Last night was all about trying new things.
Jenn invited me to the pilates studio where she teaches. Lucky me! She was actually teaching that night so I got to see her in action for the first time.
I haven’t done pilates since collages and this was only my second time trying it. It was tough and because we were doing yoga inspired pilates, I was once again reminded of how inflexible I am. :/
After pilates we went to Luna’s Living Kitchen, which is always delicious! This was Jenn’s first time trying it and I was excited to eat there with her since I know she likes raw food.
I have been slowly making my way through Luna’s small but beautiful menu so I was a little disappointed to see that they have a completely new menu. What about all those delicious dishes that I never got to try?
However, their new menu looked absolutely wonderful and they kept a few of my absolute favorites like the Lunasagna. Yum!
Of course, I tried something new. I chose the “Parmesan” Temptation:
Local leafy greens, onions, and cherry tomatoes, tossed with our Brazilian nut “Parmesan”, lightly marinated with extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. Served with our marinated beet salad.
It was delicious! The key to making a filling raw dish is to go heavy on the nuts and the healthy oil. Don’t fear the fat! The big pieces of “Parmesan” which are hard to see in this picture, were so delicious and filling.
And look! I ate beets! I usually don’t like beets but force myself to re-try them periodically because they’re so good for you. I really wish I knew what these were marinated in, but when I asked our waiter, he didn’t seem to know.
Jenn and I sat around talking for a while and then I remembered having spoken to the owner of a wine bar/store just across the parking lot from Luna’s. I thought I remembered him saying they had free wine tastings on Wednesday evenings.
And I was right! We popped into Vin Masters, a quaint little wine shop with exposed brick and simple chic furniture, and they welcomed us, despite being in gym clothes.
Vin Master is devoted to sustainability and preservation of the Earth by exposing others to sustainable, organic and biodynaminc wines from around the world. Our business is built on the belief that wines and grapes are at their best in the environments where they grow naturally.
We started out with whites, of course, and then moved onto reds (my favorite!) . I liked the 90+ Malbec, pictured above.
We even got to meet some of the distributors who were from Asheville and talked a little wine and sustainable agriculture with them before they had to leave.
I had a great time sipping wine with Jenn and the other patrons. She’s a good sport, allowing me to drag her from place to place in gym clothes. 😉
