Womp, womp, womp.
At least I’ve been eating yummy stuff, right?
I have been on a BIG oatmeal kick lately. It’s practically the only thing I’ve been eating for breakfast for the past two weeks!
Breakfast -
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 sliced banana
1/4 cup egg whites
Toppings:
1 Tbsp. almond butter (extra drippy
)
1 Tbsp. raspberry jam
loads of cinnamon
Snack -
Cashew Cookie Larabar
While I intended for this to be my afternoon snack, my rumbling tummy at 10 am decided otherwise.
Lunch -
Mexican salad, which contained romaine and iceburg lettuce, pinto and black beans, salsa, cilantro, a bit of cheese, tiny scoop of chicken and onions, a few chips on the side, and the best part (IMO), guacamole.
This was all part of a salad bar competition my division at work entered. The task was to come up with a healthy salad bar, using any theme. There were other rules too like not being able to use meat as the main dish. When we decided on a Mexican salad them, I immediately offered to make the guac.
I brought in all the ingredients yesterday and made it fresh 10 minutes before the judges arrived to sample our salad bar. They picked at the salad, but ate about half of my guac. One of my coworkers said my guac was, “life changing”.
I think they liked it.
Afternoon snack -
One kiwi and the pictured cashews x 4
I measured them out, but didn’t bother to grab a plate, preferring to eat them directly off the kitchen island and out of my own hand. Classy.
This is what I’ve been craving for the past three nights and this is what I have eaten for dinner for the past three nights:
Hot dogs!
I picked up low fat turkey hot dogs Sunday night and wheat buns to satisfy my craving, but I have continued to want them every night. Maybe it’s a salt craving disguised as a hot dog?
My hot dogs were paired with a side of roasted green beans. So gourmet.
Typically, I prefer lesser quantities of the “real thing”, but with hot dogs, I would rather have two of the low fat versions. Maybe that has something to do with the increased amount of ketchup you can eat with more surface area.
I know hot dogs are full of all kinds of weird things, but they’re one of the things I crave from time to time and I think are okay in moderation. Now, whether eating them three nights in a row is considered moderation is another debate.
The night ended with my homemade hot chocolate: 1 cup almond milk + 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder + NuNaturals Stevia for sweetness. I was *this* close to actually photographing everything I ate this week.
Hot dog fan or hot dog hater?
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure processed food?

Hmm, I’m not a huge fan of hot dogs but for some reason looking at the pic I want some!!
My fave guilty pleasure is veal schnitzel
I don’t even know what that is, but anything ending in schnitzel sounds fun.
I’ve had some recent hot dog cravings, too. I don’t eat very much meet at all, and I think finding non-meat hot dogs without a crazy list of ingredients is difficult, too!
Have you tried Applegate Farms hotdogs? I don’t think they have any weirdness included in them.
Yes, I know there are better hot dogs out there than those that I bought. My old habits die hard.
BIG fan of Applegate farm products.
I hope I didn’t make you feel judged! You can judge me for spelling “meat” incorrectly if you want to…or the fact that I have a thing for frozen pizza.:-)
It didn’t come across that way and I didn’t even notice that you misspelled meat. haha.
My favorite guilty pleasure processed food is Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. They have like 10000 ingredients but they’re really good! Also, Morningstar Farms stuff is kinda processed, right? I like that too.
Me too! I love MS tomato and basil burgers, especially topped with marinara and mozzarella.
I love oatmeal for breakfast and have been eating it a lot lately too! Its soo good!
My favorite guilty plessure processed food is ice cream and cereal.
A girl after my own heart. Cereal is the devil. I can’t stop at one bowl.
I’m a huge hot dog fan but try not too buy them too often since they aren’t the best for you. I only but all beef, which I hope cuts out SOME of the unknowns. I love the salad bar contest! I would probably go straight for the guacamole as well.
I was way bad and bought the 98% fat free ones which I’m sure has tons of strange things in them.
i love your entire thought process centered on these hotdogs. salt craving disguised as a hotdog. two hotdogs = double ketchup. haaaa.
Since I’m a veggie head, I prefer Morning Star Italian Sausage Dogs. They are packed with spices and my favorite toppings are ketchup, dijon mustard, onion, dill pickles, and cilantro —> random?!
Yes, cilantro is pretty random, but I’m sure I have some weird preference like that too. I had a seafood dog once and I bet it would have been good with cilantro.
hot dog fan!!! it’s hard to say how many late night stops i made at the hot dog man’s cart in college!
I would have been all over that if we had a hot dog truck in college.
I need to get oats back into my life. Now that the weather is cooling down, I think I can make that happen. I also need to figure out how people get egg whites incorporated in there. I haven’t figured that out yet…
I LOVE KETCHUP! On everything. It’s ridiculous.
Thank you for making me feel like my ketchup addiction is okay.
You just mix the egg whites in while it’s cooking. If you stir them in, you can’t taste them at all.
I used to be a hot dog hater but now I’m a big fan. They’re something I barely ever want to eat, but when I do the craving will not go away until I’ve stuffed my face full of them.
I like the idea of guacamole being life changing!
Your blog is really pretty, btw.
Thanks! My husband did it all. He’s amazingly talented!
Hot dog lover! Although, I stick to the fake ones (I’m a vegetarian now). You’re right, It’s really just another vehicle for ketchup.
My guilty pleasure food is probably BBQ chips, especially the kettle cooked kind.
I should try the veg kind — maybe (?) they have less weird ingredients.
AH!! Another fairly simple oatmeal lover! I love my oats mostly plain, just topped with cinnamon and fruit with nut butter to tip on the side. Yours look perfect!
my favourite places to eat are those with salad bars because I love to be able to load up salads with fresh veggies!! So delicious.
I’m vegetarian so I don’t do hot dogs but I do like a good tofu dog, when I’m in the mood.
favourite processed food? hm….I love oreos dipped in nut butter. But I hardly ever have them….
I should buy veg hot dogs sometime. I pretty much like anything in a bun with ketchup and mustard so I probably can’t tell the difference. You have to be a certified genius to think of dipping oreos in nut butter. Seriously. That sounds freaking amazing.
I like hot dogs approximately once a year, grilled
