Focus on the positive

I apologize for going MIA last night.  It seems like I get into a groove with a consistent blogging schedule and then about once a week, I just need a night off.  I’m sure you understand.

I wore a skirt yesterday for the first time since my fall.  I love wearing skirts to work because they usually require little to no ironing.  It’s been a pain ironing dress pants every day for the past week.  Plus, tights are cozy.

I’ve been in an overall lazy mood for the past two days.  The night before, I couldn’t bring myself to make anything more involved than canned soup, veggies and hummus, and a navel orange.

My orange was absolutely delicious.  Navels and clementines are my favorite citrus fruits.

My snack on the ride home was 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese and Kashi crackers.

I had a really bad ride home from work.

On my way to work that morning, I was driving behind a tractor trailer in the right lane.  The truck must have ran over a huge piece of tire debris, because before I knew it, that same huge piece of tire was flung up under my car.  I saw it just as it came out from under the truck, but because there was a car to my left, I couldn’t avoid running over it.  It made a loud sound but I didn’t think much of it.

Then on my way home from work, I heard a dragging sound.  I pulled over on the side of the road and looked under my car on all sides, but I didn’t see anything.  This happened again, and again I pulled over and saw nothing.  Was I imagining it?  Then as I slowed to a stoplight about half way through my commute, the dragging sound became louder.  I pulled over at a gas station and noticed something large underneath my car.  Thankfully, my dad was only five minutes away on his way to the gym and turned around to come inspect my car.

It turns out that the tire busted the plastic shield that covers the important things under my car.  Not a big deal.  BUT, upon further inspection, we found that the tire had also busted the bottom of my bumper.  It’s in complete disrepair and will have to be replaced. URGGH.  This will require ordering a new bumper and having it painted to match.  I just had my car painted last year.  🙁  Plus I’ve been saving all I could to go towards the new house and this is probably going to eat into all my savings for the past month.

To put it mildly, I was not happy.

A small package at home made me a little happier.

The good people at Clif Bar & Company hooked me up.

They sent me…

Shot Gels for long runs,

Shot Blocks for really long runs,

Mojo bars for snacking,

and Clif Bars, which are great for substantial snacks or as part of a meal on the go.

Brad ended up working late and my lazy mood continued. We skipped our second short training run of the week.

Because I had a good snack and didn’t workout, I had a small and super quick dinner: Morningstar Griller with pizza sauce, pesto, and a sprinkle of parm on a whole wheat roll.

Wine was necessary. 🙂 I also had two pieces of Lindt dark chocolate.  Also, very necessary.

I’m a little bummed that I’ve been so lazy this week.  I keep focusing on how soon, there will be an extra hour to two hours in my day when I change jobs.  Currently I get little to no exposure to sunlight except when I’m in the car in the mornings and that’s only for half of my drive. I’m hoping that the change in my schedule will give me more energy, but in the mean time I’m going to start taking my multi-vitamin again to get some Vitamin D in my system.  Everyone has an off week every now and then, so I’m not going to beat myself up about it.  Instead I’m going to appreciate working from home today, which means I can do a midday run! Yippee! 🙂

Happy Friday!
