Since Brad joined me for one night of my conference this week, we decided to go out to dinner rather than going to the conference reception. You know where I wanted to go. Come on, think about it. Where do you think?
That’s right, Whole Paycheck.
I. am. so. predictable.
Let’s be honest here. I have no idea what’s on my plate. I pretty much had a small spoonful of anything and everything on the salad bar and a couple of choice selections from the hot bar.
However, I do remember the best part: black cherry tofu. I can’t even start to imagine how they made this sweet + savory combo that reminded me of Western NC pork barbecue. That’s the sweet stuff, not that nasty vinegar sauce.
If anyone from Whole Foods stumbles upon this, please send the recipe to foodiefresh@gmail.com. I won’t disclose it to anyone, I swear. 😉
In addition to the wonderful food, I also got to hang out with my good friend Sandy, the same Sandy who brought me blue eggs last summer. Sandy and I went to graduate school together and also were interns for the same organization. She lives nearby and agreed to join us for dinner. It was soooo good to see her. I really need to remember to take more photos of people, not just food.
In addition to a massive bottle of water, Brad and I also split this beer. Before going out to dinner, we ran five miles and didn’t drink any water until we got to Whole Foods. Boy was I thirsty! I made myself drink a bunch of water so I wouldn’t guzzle the whole beer in one gulp.
Brad insisted I take a photo of his plate as well. He’s even choosing to eat tofu now, which is the yellow substance next to the pulled pork. I’m just now noticing that he also chose the black bean seitan chili, which leaves me wondering if the knows what he was eating.
In case you’re wondering, seitan is a vegan protein source made from flour. The protein comes from wheat gluten. It’s a pretty labor intensive thing to make. If you’re interested, you can read more about it here. I find it really funny that it’s pronounced Satan, which I think could only hurt its reputation.
A perfect ending to the meal: Brad and I split a jumble cookie which, if I had to guess, is all of the leftover batter from all of the other cookies combined to make one cookie. It’s delicious. Reminds me of getting a “suicide” back when it was cool to hang out at the roller skating rinks. Ha.
This little bite was all that was left when I remembered to snap before I devour.
First rule of food-centric blogging: snap before your devour.
