Making granola is so super easy. You really don’t need me at all. You can pretty much add whatever you want and as long as you don’t burn it, everything will turn out great. Just to show you how easy it is, I made granola yesterday with only one measurement tool.
I pulled out some homemade apple sauce from the freezer and heated it in the microwave until it was completely thawed. No measurement required folks. If I had to guess, I think this is about 1 1/2 cups.
Next, I added rolled oats, half a cup at a time, mixing it as I added until all of the oats were moist, but there wasn’t any excess applesauce hanging around. I used about 2 1/2 cups.
Then came the fun part: the toppings. Don’t let me tell you what to add. Use your imagination. Get creative. I’m just adding what I have. No grocery store required.
First up: two handfuls of pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
Second add-in: dried berries from TJ’s dried berry mix, which includes blueberries, cherries, golden raisins, and cranberries.
I love cinnamon so I added 1/2 Tbsp. which made the condo smell heavenly for the rest of the day.
Then I salted the whole mix just a bit. I flipped my wrist and counted slowly to five.
This is the part where you can experiment. I like granola for the crunch, but if you like it for it’s sweetness, you’ll want to add some form of sweetness to this. Don’t forget that everything in this is edible, so you can add it a bit at a time mixing well until you reach optimal sweetness.
For me, the berries are sweetness enough.
Spread your granola out evenly on a baking pan and cook on 400 degrees F for 25-30 minutes, flipping the granola with a spatula halfway through.
Eat it solo or use it as a topping on whatever you like. I like mine best over smoothies in a bowl. But I have been known to eat it straight up with milk.
Happy crunching! 🙂
