New and old things

I love trying new things and what better place to try new things than the grocery store.  I headed out after work to Earth Fare to get some much needed grocery loot and stumbled upon some new things in the process.

While I was there, I also saw an old friend.  So I picked him up and took him home with me.

Kombucha is back!

Is this a new flavor?  I’ve never tried it until now.  The green comes from sea plants and spirulina.  I could definitely taste the green, but in a good way.

Dinner was quick since I didn’t get home until 7:30.  I used Lawry’s seasoned salt to spice up some kale chips.  I used to use this spice all the time to season homemade potato wedges in college, but I’ve never used it on kale chips before.  If you’re wondering about the flavor, it tastes like the seasoning used on Bojangle’s fries.  I’m sure that point is lost on all of you non-southerners.  😉

I tried a new veggie burger: Gardenburger chipotle black bean burgers.  I used my usual method of nuking the burger(s) for one minute, but this time I sauteed in a cast iron skillet rather than cooking them under the broiler.  I also used a new hamburger bun I picked up at the grocery store: Alvarado Street Sprouted Wheat Hamburger Buns.  These were cheaper and a bit smaller than the Ezekiel buns, which I like, but also think they’re a little too big and a little too pricey.

I dressed mine and Brad’s burgers with a lot of ketchup, mustard, and some red onion.  Plenty of ketchup went on the kale chips as well.  This veggie burger was pretty good, but didn’t beat my favorite Morning Star.  You never know what you’re going to get with pre-made veggie burgers, but overall I was happy with this purchase.  I would buy them over Morning Star if they’re on sale.

Something else new: hemp milk ice cream.  This flavor had been discontinued, so it was on sale.  That’s too bad because it was really good.  The coffee taste was subtle and the chocolate biscotti pieces were icing on the cake.

I’m sad I won’t be able to buy any more of this. Maybe I should have bought them out. 😉

We spent the rest of the night being super lazy and watching Grey’s Anatomy.  It’s so nice to be home.  Spending six days and nights out of town in a hotel room, makes me realize how much I love spending time with Brad and Rascal.

I’m looking forward to a very low key weekend.  🙂
