After work, I returned home to find Brad sipping whiskey and listening to Tori Amos. What a weird person I’ve married, but he would say the exact same thing about me. 😉 I grabbed a quick snack before embarking on my run.
Not the most appetizing photo…pita chip crumbs with tri-color humus in a small snack bowl (photos can be misleading when it comes to size). And yes, I did eat it with a spoon.
The plan was to run to the new house where I would meet Brad in the car and from there we would go inside and snap photos to show our family. Then I planned to either run back for a four mile run, or go to my next turn-around point, which would put me at six miles. As soon as I started running I could immediately tell that something was very wrong. I had this really intense pain in the groin area. On both sides. Each time I picked up my right leg, my right side would hurt, and the same with the left. The pain was pretty intense, but I managed to push myself all the way to the two mile mark of the new house. Which, granted, probably wasn’t the best thing to do. You really shouldn’t run if you’re in intense pain. I thought it was just a “sore” pain, the kind that subsides if you just keep on running. However, it didn’t subside, and it really really hurt. By the time I made it to the new house, I knew I wasn’t going to be running back.
Brad and I had a great time exploring the house and coming up with ideas for improvement and eventually expansion. We got so many great ideas from our neighbors house. The former owner, who was also there, told us that a couple that owned the place before him had architectural drawings for a major renovation and expansion of the house, that never happened. He thinks he can get them for us. I’m so excited to see them. Even if they’re not exactly what we want, they might have some great ideas that we can modify to best suit our needs. We both love that it has a partially finished attic, which we think we can eventually make into two bedrooms and a bathroom. The house is very craftsman-like, which we love. It has tons of potential and the most fun part is that we get to make it exactly what we want it to be.
After my run fail and our new house exploration, we headed back home for dinner. It was after 8 at this point, but we got pretty used to this eating schedule when we were in Italy. Side note: Italian restaurants don’t even open or take reservations until 6:30 or 7 pm, so typical Italians eat dinner at 8:30 or 9 pm. I always felt weird and like we stuck out like a sore thumb, the few times we ate dinner at 6-7 pm.
On the menu: a quick southwest salad with some sparkling water/pomegranate juice.
In the mix…
Spinach
Roasted corn
Black beans
Salsa
Avocado
Lime juice
Brad had his with chicken, which I sautéed with cumin, ground coriander seed, onion powder, salt and fresh ground pepper.
Brad accidentally cut his salad up before I could photograph. He also had a Bud Light (originally) that I traded him for a Bad Penny, because I caught beer envy once again.
During dinner Brad got a text from our friend Gibson saying that he was at a pub close by, so we invited him and his girlfriend Chloe up to our place. We showed them the honeymoon photos (coming soon) and the photos of our new house we took earlier that day. I may have enjoyed a Bad Penny at this point myself. 😉
After they left I caught up on a little bad-for-your-brain TV, because I love it, then headed to bed.
I plan to forgo trying to run again tomorrow and hopefully do some strength training. I’ve never had a pain like I experienced before so I don’t know quite what to make of it, but I hope it goes away soon.
