Run for your life 4 miler

A week or two ago I signed up for the Run for Your Life 4 mile run in Dilworth.  I almost forgot about it but was reminded by some bloggers you probably already know.

I started the day off at 5:30 am with my pre-run breakfast of choice, which I think is perfect for all distances: one piece of Ezekiel, natural crunchy peanut butter, and half a banana.

I left my camera in my car, so I don’t have any good race photos.  When you only have one camera, albeit a simple little point and shoot, you don’t want to mess it up by dropping it during a race.  I think Matt got an action shot of me, which Kath posted in her race recap.  Emily posted some too.

Other runners were Jen, Emma, and Michelle.  Kath’s husband, Matt and Diana were nice enough to take photos and cheer us on during the race. Emily and Jen’s husbands raced with us too.

My brain has been elsewhere this week due to overload from the wedding so I somehow started my Garmin too soon and then forgot to stop it until I had taken my chip off and got some water.  My time was pretty good for me (34:47), but I am looking forward to seeing the real race time when it’s posted online later.  It was pretty humid outside but I think I’ve grown accustomed to the heat in the early morning, so it didn’t bother me very much.  The course had some gentle hills and then a few larger hills, but nothing compared to the four mile course the Charlotte Running Group does every Thursday night.

After the race, we stopped by some of the vendors.  I picked up a White Peach Honest tea, which I haven’t tried yet, and a piece of cinnamon chip Great Harvest bread.  I ate half of it there, then half later.

Then we headed over to Caitlin’s for brunch.

My contribution to the meal was a fruit salad of peaches, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries + a few squirts of lemon juice.

The rest of the spread was completed with Emily’s homemade energy bars, bagels, Nutzo, and Naturally Nutty Mocha PB, plus juice and such.

My plate after I had already taken a big bite out of Emily’s energy bar.  Yummy. 🙂  I had half a bagel with half Nutzo and half Naturally Nutty, plus some fruit.

We hung out under a tent in Caitlin’s front yard.  We were way too smelly for the house, and I’m pretty sure I was the smelliest of them all.  Caitlin’s Miami Canes flags led to a lot of pointing and inquisitive looks from drivers.  I think they thought we were getting a way early start on football season tailgating.

Caitlin’s dog Maggie was a big hit with me, but I am partial to daschunds for obvious reasons.

James was also very sweet and real ham for the camera.

Once I cooled down, I was ready for some coffee.  It was excellent and just what I needed to ward off sore muscles.
