Brunching

I woke up early this morning to get a jump start on the day.

Brad and I had brunch plans with friends, but I had about three hours until then, so I snacked on my a peanut butter chocolate Larabar and a cup of coffee to tide me over until then.

After some blogging and some other stuff, Brad and I were off to brunch at Crepe Cellar to meet Katie and Stewart.   Unfortunately, our plans were at 10 am and Crepe Cellar doesn’t open until 11:30.  Boo.

We opted instead to go to Zada Janes, another great brunch (and lunch and dinner) place in Charlotte.

What a cute pair.

We waited a bit for a table.  Zada Janes is super popular and we always have to wait to get a table, especially for brunch.

After looking the menu over and over, I ordered the East-West, which is a yellow curry tofu scramble with peas, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and caramelized onions.  I also ordered the millet flax bread on the side.

Katie ordered the same, because great minds think alike. 😉

The East-West was really good.  I usually opt for a build-your-own omelet and I’m really glad I branched out and tried something new.

Some people only order what they can’t make at home, but I like to order things I want to try to make at home.  I definitely will be giving this a try in the near future.

Brad ordered the Booker T East Side Hash.  It was good, but way too rich for him to finish it off.  I had a bite and really like the sweet + savory mix of sweet potato, turkey sausage, egg and cheddar.  Brad also had an un-pictured biscuit.  Zada Jane’s biscuits are beautiful and fluffy.

Stewart ordered the Belvedere Omelet: spinach, goat cheese, roasted garlic, mushrooms, tomato and basil with a side of sweet potato hash and a biscuit.

Looked like a great choice to me! 🙂

After brunch, Brad and I headed over to the Charlotte Running Company, but unfortunately we were about 30 minutes early and they were closed too.  Man, we were unlucky today with showing up at the right time!

We killed time with a trip to the grocery store (my third trip this weekend but a different grocery store) and Dilworth Coffee House.  There are a few of these in Charlotte, but we went to the original Dilworth location.

I had a Cafe Au Lait (coffee + steamed milk) while Brad chose an iced coffee.  I’m picky about my coffee, but I thought this coffee was just right.  Not too strong, but just strong enough.  This place is only a few blocks from our new house, so I’ll definitely be dropping by when we move.

Create. Brew. Blend. Enjoy. 🙂

Finally, we made it to Charlotte Running Company and they were open.

Brad tried on several pairs of shoes and finally settled on a pair of these Mizunos and these Nike Dry-Fit Track Pants for cold weather running.

I picked up a pair of Balega socks.  I already own one pair of these sock and I really love them.  They’re thick and extra cushy.  My favorite part is the lip on the back that protects my ankles from getting rubbed and developing blisters.  I wear them on all of my long runs.

What running or exercise apparel are your favorites?
