Lately, I’ve been taking things easy and soaking in Elliott. I could kiss his round little head a hundred times a day (and I do). I love to touch his baby soft skin and stroke his silky hair. When he’s awake, I could look at his big dark eyes forever. And I treasure the fact that right now he lets me smooch him right on the lips. I know he won’t want me to do that one day.
Spending time with Elliott has been my number one priority lately. I know he’ll be this little for such a short period of time, so I am trying to do everything I can to soak up this precious time. I actually cried when he was four days old because I knew he would grow up someday. He won’t be my baby forever.
Cleaning and scrubbing
Can wait ’til tomorrow
For babies grow up
We’ve learned to our sorrow
So quiet down cobwebs
Dust go to sleep
I’m rocking my baby
And babies don’t keep

Spending quality time bonding with my baby is so important to me. As someone who multitasks while I’m multitasking, you’d think I’d have a hard time solely concentrating on just being with Elliott. But it’s the most natural thing to me. And I’m sure every mother can attest, your very own baby is mesmerizing. Here are some of my very favorite ways to spend time with him.
Nursing Often
Sometimes it seems like I’m nursing around the clock. Especially this past week; he’s been very fussy. At first, his fussiness was due to gas. But now it’s like he’s figured out that if he cries, I’ll pick him up. And usually, he’s not okay with just anybody trying to console him. It has to be me. Other times, he’s inconsolable and although I’m sure he isn’t hungry (because he just ate), nursing is the only thing that will make him happy. I’ve become a pro at working with my laptop on my lap while he nurses or just happily sleeps. But we don’t always nurse this way. Many times, I just sit there and stare at him, marveling at how beautiful he is while he eats.
Dancing and Singing
When Elliott is fussy and we don’t nurse, we often dance and sing. He likes big jumpy movements and fast songs. I probably look like a maniac, but it’s a lot of fun dancing with my baby and he loves it.
Baby Aerobics
We like to turn on the Baby Einstein station on Pandora radio and do our “baby aerobics” and sing along. We lie in bed and I prop Elliott up on my legs and move his hands and feet along to the music. We especially like the oldies songs. Elliott is too young to respond with smiling, but I think he likes this activity.
Talking to Him
I know Elliott can’t understand anything I’m saying, but it’s good for babies of any age to hear a lot of words foe language development. I talk to him just like he understands and can respond. We talk about anything and everything. When he’s really fussy, I take him outside (he loves being outside!) and I talk to him about all the different things I see, like birds on the bird feeder, the rabbit that lives in our back yard, the leaves changing colors on the trees… It really doesn’t matter. Babies just love the sound of their mama’s voice.
Baby Wearing
I love wearing Elliott. I read about the Boba Wrap back when I was researching what to put on my registry. I knew I would want to wear him and was on the look out for the perfect wrap carrier. I read rave reviews about the Boba and am so glad I ordered it. I love having him close to me, yet still being able to move and do things with my hands. I also really like that the Boba Wrap doesn’t have any snaps or rings. I just tie it as loose or as snug as I want it each time I wear it. And I can use it until Elliott is about 18 months!
This is what my wrap looks like and this is the color I ordered (gray). The wrap also comes in six more colors. Boba also makes carriers as well if the wrap is not your thing.
