Happy Fitness Friday!
Brad and I are in a car on the way to visit friends who live just outside of New York City right now. We met up with friends in Virginia last night and are carpooling with them for the rest of the trip. It’s going to be a long drive, but we’re excited about seeing good friends and hanging out the whole weekend.
While I’m sitting on my butt in the car for the next 7-8 hours, let’s recap the times this week when I was a little more active.
And I mean just a little, because I definitely did not meet my fitness goals for this week.
I’ll elaborate more in just a bit.
Last Friday was a rest day.
On Saturday, I ran a little over six miles. It was a good six miles and I was glad to be out there. I would actually have liked to run a bit longer but I had so much to do, including a trip to the vet with Rascal that I had been putting off for over a month.
Even though I had plenty of time to workout on Sunday, I felt like I had a real lack of energy and excused myself from doing anything more than housework the whole day.
On Monday, I experienced pretty bad stomach cramps from 10 am until I went to bed that night. I can usually exercise when I’m tired, but don’t really push myself if I’m sick or in pain.
I made plans with a running date on Tuesday, then just as I was about to walk out the door to go meet her…Boom! Thunder rumbled and interrupted the search for my keys and my plans for an outside run. Instead, I did 45 minutes on the elliptical with my newest Women’s Health Magazine then headed back upstairs to the condo to do a four exercise circuit focusing on the legs in glutes, I saw in the magazine.
The first move needed a step and I improvised with a plastic box I use for storing files. Not quite as sturdy as a step, but it did the trick. I did the circuit twice, then moved on to dinner. Rascal watched from the comfort of his bed.
Please pay no attention to the towels on the ottoman that need to be put away or the wire hanger that Brad seems to leave in that chair every time he goes on a business trip.
On Wednesday, I intended to get up early and workout, but instead woke up with a headache and an all too familiar feeling in my stomach, and reset my alarm to sleep longer. That all-too familiar feeling was the same stomach pains I had the day before my marathon and the day of my marathon, that continued on into the month of February, until I got fed up and decided to try taking a probiotic. I’ve been neglecting my probiotic, so I took one down and hoped for the best.
I’m not someone who is sick all the time. My headaches are few and far between and usually caused by a lack of sleep. I’ll admit that this week has been a bit discouraging. I’m not used to my own body keeping me from exercise.
The pain got worse later in the day and even worse later on that night. I discussed it with my aunt and she said it could be a number of things, including an ulcer. Thursday morning was no better and I felt really weak. I started taking my probiotics regularly again (even though I’ve been eating yogurt like it’s my job for several weeks), hoping that it will fix everything.
I’m so very happy to report that I woke up this morning (Friday) and feel so much better! I still have that tightness and bloating feeling in my stomach, much like I experienced the whole month of January, but nothing that could keep me from exercising. I see a run in the near future. 🙂
It’s a good thing too, because I have two fitness-related things going on right now…
1. I just applied to be a Fitfluential Ambassador.
2. AND, I just signed up for the Savannah Rock n’ Roll Marathon!
Waking up with virtually no stomach pain was an answer to my prayers. I spent most of Thursday night in pain (and shivering from probably a fever) thinking about how I was afraid to register for the marathon because something is obviously wrong with me and how I might not be able to go on the trip (that I’m currently on) because of my stomach woes.
I’m literally beaming and plotting my next run sitting in the back seat of the car while I type this.
It’s going to be a long ride, but I have a stack of Runner’s World, Women’s Health, and plenty of marathon training research to be done. 🙂
What are you doing for July 4th?
