Hats on parade

I have had great fun this morning, catching up on the royal fashion show wedding.

We Americans can’t hold a candle to how the Brits pull off a hat.  If I was a  betting woman, I would wager that after the parade of hats the American public saw this morning, we are going to see American women try to pull off the fancy hat.

Here are my favorite hat picks of the wedding.  I will forewarn you that I have a thing for hats that are more fashionable than functional.

Tara Palmer Tomkinson (socialite and friend of Prince Charles) has received a lot of flack in the past few hours for her hat choice, but I loved it! Yes, it is shaped like a canoe with a big rose in the center, but I don’t care.  I approve for this particular occasion.  It’s a beautiful color (although perhaps a bit too matchy matchy for my taste with the dress), it’s over the top, it’s unique, and it suits her.

Victoria Beckham looked sleek and gorgeous, despite being very pregnant in her deep navy ensemble.  Her hat was very Victoria: small, sleek, and stylish.  And even though, we’re not talking shoes here, check out those shoes! I can’t wear shoes that tall now, so I highly doubt I could pull that off at five months pregnant.

Amelia Spencer  (niece of Diana) wore a truly beautiful pink hat, embelished with matching silk roses.  Love, love, loved it!

But if I had to give top prize for the most exquisite hat, I would have to give the award to Marina Fogle (party planner; husband is a reporter for the BBC)  How lovely does she look? Very lovely, at six months pregnant.  Her taupe hat with netting reminds me of loose ringlet curls.  I love how she paired the neutral color with such an eye popping green.

What stylish mothers-to-be attended the wedding of Kate and Prince William!

And of course, no one can discuss hats, without mentioning the daughters of Fergie: Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.  I actually really like Eugenie’s bright blue hat and feathers, but am keeping mum on her dress.

However, Beatrice looks more well suited for a Lady Gaga concert than a wedding, especially a wedding where people will be scrutinizing your clothing choices.  She’s awfully daring; I will give her that.

This makes me want to get married all over again and this time, demand that all the ladies where hats.  Maybe I’ll just throw a party and leave the guys out of it.  No one is talking about what they’re wearing after all.

Did you watch the royal wedding?  Who wore your favorite hat?
