Live music at the Double Door Inn

Last night, Brad and I had plans to see a friend’s band who was playing at a local Charlotte bar.  I made dinner before we headed out for the night.

On the menu: Jerk Mahi Mahi in a garlic white wine sauce, coconut brown rice, and roasted vegetables.

I roasted broccoli, red and green bell peppers, red onions, and cherry tomatoes in Garlic Gold, a bit of EVOO (I sprayed with the Misto), sea salt, and red pepper flakes.

I cooked the brown rice in a 1:1 ration of water and coconut milk, then added about 1/4 cup of coconut to the 2 cooked cups of brown rice.

I sauteed the Mahi Mahi after sprinkling them with jerk seasoning and salt.  Then I minced and browned some garlic in a separate pan, added about 1/2 cup of white wine and 1/2 cup vegetable broth,  and then let it cook down until it was reduced by half.  I added about 1/2 tsp. of cornstarch to thicken it up, whisked it quickly to mix in with the sauce, then poured it over the fish fillets.

This meal was a hit.  🙂  And, it was super easy.

Now for a not-so-appetizing photo.

It looks like there was a homicide beside my car in the parking garage.  But I can assure you, no one lost their life here.  However, a glass bottle of raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing did bite the dust in this spot.

I picked up most of the glass, then told our concierge about it.  I figured they would try to hose it down, but I haven’t seen that they have done anything.  It’s kind of a pain because you have to step over it to get in the passenger side of my car.  But I can’t help but laugh every time I see it because it truly looks like something went down here.  Brad and I have joked about drawing a chalk outline of a person’s body.

We’re a morbid pair.

After dodging stepping into the crime scene, we headed over to the Double Door Inn.

The Double Door Inn is kind of a dive but it’s really cool and has been in Charlotte forever.  I actually took my brother here to see his saxophone tutor play in a jazz band when he was in high school.  That was sooo long ago.

Down by Five is our friend TJ’s band and who we were there to see.  TJ and his wife Kristin live in the Raleigh area so we do not get to see them very often.  This was the first time Brad and I had ever heard his band play live.

I couldn’t help my self when I saw the Auto Fry back in the kitchen, so I snapped a photo.  How does it work?  I don’t think I want to know.

The band played for two sets.  Photos from the show…

Down by Five was really good!  They kind of sound like if Sublime and 311 had a love child.  If you like that kind of music, you should definitely check out their Facebook page.

This was one of the latest nights we have stayed out in a looooong time.  Of course there were beers.  One should not order wine at a place like the Double Door.

And when there’s beer, my mind naturally gravitates towards pizza at 1 am.

So, pizza it was.
