Back to basics

This morning I went back to my “basic” oatmeal recipe – Banana oats with PB & J.  I think banana oat with PB are everyone’s standard in the blog world, but you know mine has to have some jam.

Oats contained:

1/2 cup oats cooked in 1/2 cup almond milk and 1/2 cup water

1/2 thinly sliced banana stirred in when oats were almost completely cooked

topped with 1 Tbsp. organic crunch PB and 1 Tbsp. Crofters Superfruit Asia

Perfect and satisfying!

Very much unlike his usual self, Rascal decided to get up with me today instead of Brad.  When my alarm went off, he poked his head out from under the covers at the bottom of the bed and creeped over to the very edge of the bed, placing his paws over the edge.  This is how he shows me he’s ready to get down.

While eating my breakfast, he went and got in his own bed, which Brad and I taught him to do while we eat.  This prevents begging or at least he’s at a distance while he’s staring us down and not in our face giving us his pitiful look.  If you have a dog, you know the look.  It’s the “you don’t ever feed me” look.  They somehow pull of this look even if they have just been fed.

Since Rascal was such a good boy, I decided to reward him, as we often do.  I let him lick my bowl.

Brad and I only let him do this when there is only a residue of the food we ate, not when there is any real amount of food left.  He enjoys this so much and it’s positive reinforcement that he was good for not begging while I ate.

Look!  All clean!

He always likes to show that he is finished and will look to you for more if there is another dish on the table.

Disclaimer: This bowl went immediately  into the dishwasher where it will be properly sanitized. 🙂

I hope everyone has a great day!
