I really do love statement pieces.
This huge turquoise necklace is my very favorite. I’ve had it for years and because it’s so heavy, I’ve broken it once and had to have it re-strung at a bead shop.
Black and white make great backdrops if you want to use a statement piece. I’ve tried this necklace on with patterns, but it’s just too much. It needs to be paired with neutral colors, so it doesn’t have to compete.
Contrary to that, I also love combining red and turquoise.
I wore this outfit to the kickoff meeting of the Charlotte Carolina Club Leadership Team at Vivace. In retrospect, I should have went sleeveless because we met out on their terrace and boy was it hot! However, I love the different textures of the black lace and the turquoise beads. Clearly, I have a penchant for lace this week.
Because I’m such a slight person, I have little rules about statement pieces, like no big earrings, no huge belts, no scarves, etc. Basically I follow the rule no two large accessories shall be worn at the same time. Kelly 2: 19.
Now there are exceptions to this rule but typically this is my own little silent rule. Personally, I think taller girls can get away with more than one large accessory at a time sometimes. But I also believe in being true to your own style, which means, feel free to throw any of my personal rules out the window.
Do you have a favorite statement piece?
Do you follow any self-imposed fashion or accessorizing rules?

I’m fairly short, so I feel like I can’t wear too many big statement pieces, too. I tend to go easy on big pieces, and I generally shy away from anything large in the neck area, but I LOVE your turquoise necklace — so pretty with the black lace!
I really love huge necklaces but I’m super picky about beads. Some look so cheap. I fell in love with this necklace 5-6 years ago and wear it all the time. I actually got a really good deal on it too.
Thanks Kristen!
Black lace!
I love statement pieces, but I need more confidence with the whole pulling them off thing. I love, love, love to ogle the ones that Anthropologie.
Me too! If only I could afford them

Love that necklace!!! The only real thing that I think is statement worthy is my red high heels. Though I have only wore them once, haha
Red high heals are so cool! You should go somewhere just so you can wear them again.
I love how your hair kinda bumps up at the crown. Do you do something specific to make it stay that way or are you just lucky? I just accidentally cut 5 inches off my hair (lol) and I actually love it and would love tips because your hair style is adorable
First, it has to be dirty. It never bumps as well if it’s clean. The more hairspray that is already in it, the better. I pull it back behind my ears, then push it up a bit in the back before securing it with bobby pins. Then I use my fingers to pull out the hair a bit more so it’s evenly pulled out in the right places. I hope that makes sense.
I wish I had more jewelry and accessories. They really do pull together a look. Love this one with the pop of color!
I love accessories but I don’t like to spend a lot of money on them so I look for cute online boutiques and wait for sales.
