Social anxiety

I’m waaaay behind posting.  I’ve been very busy.

After my workout yesterday, I had a snack of cottage cheese and a Dr. Cracker’s cracker, which I ate while blogging.

Rascal was more than happy to clean out the rest of the cottage cheese that I couldn’t scoop out with my cracker.

Dinner looked appetizing, but was a complete fail…well except for the roasted parsnips.  Don’t ask, just learn from my mistake, stone ground mustard is not mustard powder, it’s just course condiment mustard.  Brad and I scraped the mixture off of the salmon, which would have been good except for that fatal mistake.  I could only manage to eat half of mine because of my snack earlier.

I liked the peas, but Brad did not because I can’t teach him to like basil.  They had a bit of dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt + pepper, caramelized onion and roasted garlic and basil.

The roasted parsnips were the only thing Brad liked and were my favorite part of the meal too.  I got the idea to mix nut butter with roasted parsnips from Lindsey, who has her own version that were really good when I made them.  I used four parsnips which were enough for two people, chopped them in thick fry-like shapes, then mixed them with one tsp. of toasted sesame oil, a Tbsp. of sunflower seed butter, and then a small palm-full of sesame seeds.  I roasted them on 400 degrees F for 30 minutes.

After dinner, Rascal was ready to go out on the town.  Diana invited us to the NoDa Dog Bar to celebrate Bailey’s and Maggie’s (Caitlin’s doxie) birthdays.

She even brought a cake!… a doggy cake, that is.

The only shot I could get of the birthday boy

He was quite the social butterfly and looked like he was having a great time the whole night.

Maggie and Rascal must have been separated at birth because she just wanted to sit on her mama’s lap all night.

The place was hopping.

Rascal wanted to stay on my lap all night too.  He was very anti-social.  He has always had anxiety issues, but they were more separation anxiety issues.  I think he’s moved on to social anxiety.

He really loved the cake.  He even tried to steal Maggie’s when she didn’t seem to want hers.  Luckily, he accidentally dropped the piece he stole.  He did not need a second helping!

Even when I put him down, he never went more than five feet away, only to return and give me sad eyes until I picked him back up again.  So spoiled.

This guy was dying for a piece of cake all night and finally Diana found his owner who said it was okay.  He was whining at us at one point.  He knew how to work the cuteness.

Despite the socializing fail for Rascal, I had a great time.

When I got home, Brad and I just had to try the orange cranberry scones I made for tomorrow going away brunch for Emily and Casey.  I’ve made them before, but you never know, they could have been awful.  Luckily for us, the one we split was delicious.

We also share this glass of milk, then turned in for the night.

I’m going to attempt to post the brunch recap later plus the recipe for the scones.  But we have people coming over tonight so I might be MIA for the rest of the day.

Enjoy your weekend!
