New to me

Yesterday, after I spent a morning doing a lot of pre-employment stuff with more to do later, Brad asked if I wanted to grab Phat Burritos for lunch.   I have a lot of eating out plans the next few days so I hesitated to eat out for lunch.  It’s really hard to resist Phat Burritos and we had two Groupons to use so I gave in to Brad’s request.

Unfortunately, Brad had planned to use the Groupon app on the iPhone to show that we had a Groupon and his phone died just as we were ordering.  Oh well.

I branched outside of my typical two fish tacos that I order every single time, and got a fish salad instead.  My was this massive! It actually came with a tortilla in addition to the salad.  It was almost 1 am by the time we ate and I was starving since I typically eat between 11:30 and 12.  I ate basically the entire salad, plus a couple of pinches off of the tortilla.

My salad had romaine, fish, black beans, cheese, cabbage, mango salsa, regular salsa, lime juice, and…

…at least 2/3 of this cup of guac.  Mexican food is really just an excuse to eat guacamole.

Brad had a chicken quesidilla.  He also happily ate my tortilla with some stray lettuce when he found out that I wasn’t going to eat it myself.

The rest of the day went completely un-photographed, so you’ll have to take my word for it.

After a pre-employment drug test and a quick trip to Trader Joe’s, I managed to get my car into our parking garage without the  gate opener that allows me to get in and out of the garage.  Our condo staff can’t control the outer gate, so my car was basically being held hostage by the parking garage.  So I hopped on my bike and went over to the new house where the garage gate opener had been left in Brad’s car.  Oh the joys of sharing one parking space between two people.

It was quite the adventure.  Riding my bike through Uptown Charlotte during rush hour traffic was challenging to say the least.  But riding through Uptown during the CIAA tournament, is quite challenging.  Let’s just put it this way: there are 180,000 extra people in Charlotte this week to attend the tournament and most, if not all of them, are Uptown where the games are being held.

This also is causing a hitch in our weekend plans.  My younger cousin April is turning 21 so my brother Wess and I decided that we were the best candidates to show her a good and safe time, since we’re responsible adults and all.  The only problem is she understandably wants her friends to go who are not all 21, which really limits the places we can take her.  Uptown will be a mad house and it’s well known that places charge outrageous cover charges because of the tournament.  After much debate, we’ve decided that we are going to take her and her friends to Brixx Pizza Uptown and play it by ear after that.

We made this decision over ribs, macaroni and cheese, and baked beans celebrating her birthday last night with my family.  The menu was her choice and even though I was still kind of full from my massive salad from lunch, I just cannot pass on my grandfather’s ribs.  They’re a real treat. 🙂

I woke up this morning to the siren song of an almost empty nut butter jar.

I postponed my plans to run on the treadmill.  I figured if I went into work early I could leave a little early and I might feel like working out more then.

For breakfast, I tried a completely new-to-me combination: quinoa in a jar. No oats in a jar for me this morning.

In the sunflower butter jar:
– a little > 1/2 cup of red quinoa
– 1/4 chopped mango
– Greek yogurt
– ~1 tsp. chia seeds.

I heated the quinoa and mango in the microwave, then added the chia seeds and Greek yogurt.

See those dark marks on the side of my jar?  Do as I say, not as I do and never put a jar with remnants of aluminum foil-like paper still stuck to the sides.  The microwave gets angry when you do that.  Sparks will fly.

What little bit of sunflower butter I didn’t manage to eat, Rascal got to enjoy.  I originally gave him the jar, but it was pitiful to watch him struggling trying to figure out how to stop  it from rolling while he licked the sides. I had to help poor little guy.

I will be eating out with coworkers today for my second going-away lunch, but I promise to replace my lunch post with something for your reading pleasure.

What new food or food combination you have recently tried?  Did you like it?
