Birthday dinner at Lulu

For Candace’s birthday, I wanted to take her out to dinner.  So I made three suggestions for dinner choices in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood.  She looked over their menus and chose Lulu.

Neither of us had ever eaten at Lulu, but I had heard good things about it.

We chose a French Syrah/Grenache blend.  It was slightly peppery, full bodied, and delicious.

We decided to split everything and started out with the Lulu salad: mixed greens, roasted tomato, sunflower seeds, and a mustard vinaigrette.  The roasted tomato was the best part.

We also shared the humus plate and the cheese plate.

My first plate.

We were so caught up in conversation and enjoying the food, my photos were a little “after the fact”.  Oh well.  This is the cheese plate minus most of the cheese.  It had crostini, green apples, brie, a firm goat cheese, and a creamy French cheese.  Neither of us cared for the French cheese.  It was a little too earthy tasting for me.  The brie and the goat more than made up for it.

The humus was extra lemon-y and I loved it!

The birthday girl chose the berry bread pudding.  I have actually never had bread pudding before, but I am now a big fan.  Thank you Lulu, I needed another dessert to crave. 😉

The manager (or perhaps owner?) was so nice and offered to take our photo as we headed out the door to….

Thomas Street!

I chose the Stella.

Josie graciously shared her spinach dip, but I only had a chip.

Fuel Pizza was just too hard to pass up come 12 am.  It was soooo close, we just couldn’t resist.

Ironically, these were our assigned order numbers.

Look how happy we are to be eating pizza!  I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who beams when I think about pizza.  Jackie and Jason are so cute.  They’re getting married next April. 🙂

Plus, I learned something really cool.  If you don’t see the slice of pizza you want, select a slice of cheese, and Fuel will add any toppings you want.  Tomato, basil, and extra mozzarella for me!

We crashed as soon as we got home.

It was so much fun to spend the day with Candace.  While we were getting our nails done earlier that day, the technician working on Candace thought it was amazing that we have been friends since I was 15 and she was 16.  That’s over 12 years!  Friends like that don’t come along every day, and even though we have lived in different cities for the past nine years, we always keep in touch and pick up right where we left off.

I feel so lucky to have her in my life.
