Disney expo and pre-half dinner

Yesterday morning before we set off for Orlando, I made sure I was up in time to make us a good breakfast.

I made baked sweet potato oatmeal for two.

His and her coffees: Brad’s is black and mine has almond milk.

I topped mine with a bit of peanut butter and sweet potato butter.

This is so filling.  I couldn’t finish my last bite.

We packed our bags and caught our flight to Orlando with a short layover in Atlanta.  We had 1 1/2 hours to kill in the ATL airport so we had a quick lunch at a Chili’s Too. You know, the smaller scale Chili’s with less options on their menu.  It wasn’t anything worth blogging about.

I’m smiling in this photo because I have no idea that the car rental place is going to rip me off.  I’ve never heard of having to pay to waive the fee on the insurance before. Not mentioning any specific names, but be aware of this particular company’s tactics to get you to shell out more money than you intended.

Car rental expenses aside, Brad and I headed off to the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex to pick up our race packets and our swag.

We also met up with my roommate from grad school, Danielle, who was also going to run the half marathon, like Brad.

We got some great stuff at the expo, like mini Larabars and Cascadian Farms samples.  We also ate quite a bit of free samples from Clif and some other brands I have never heard of.  I also bought plenty of Gu to go with a pack of Clif Shot Blocks for tomorrow.  I’ve typically made my running fuel for long runs, but there just wasn’t enough hours in last week for me to get a bunch made.  So, I loaded up on enough running fuel at the expo to get me through the mary.

After the expo, we headed to dinner in Downtown Disney.

I set up reservations at the casual part of Wolfgang Puck several days ago.  Their casual downstairs restaurant focuses on pizza, pasts, sushi, and salads.   Upstairs, they feature steak and seafood entrees.

Syrah for me since I wasn’t the one racing in the morning. 🙂

Besides the bread basket, we also started off with a rainbow roll which we devoured before I remembered my blogger responsibilities.

Brad and Danielle decided to have the best of both worlds and split pizza and pasta.

Their veggie pizza had pesto, olives, tomatoes, onions, and zucchini.  The consensus was that the olives were a bit overwhelming.

I tried their pumpkin ravioli and we all decided the pumpkin was a little too sweet for a savory dish.

I ordered the spinach salad which had a whole bag of spinach (it seemed), apples, candied pecans, blue cheese, and radicchio.  After I dug in, I wish I had asked for the dressing in the side.  It was just a little much for me.

We were a little disappointed in the food at Wolfgang Puck.  It wasn’t bad, I just think we were expecting a little more.

We turned in early to get a good night’s rest for a 3 a.m. wake-up call.  Yes, you have to get up that early to run the Disney World half marathon or the full marathon.

Stay tuned for Brad’s half marathon race recap and…
