My Pregnancy: 10 Weeks

This is a post I wrote about my pregnancy when I was 10 weeks pregnant before I had announced it here.

And I’m going to blame pregnancy brain this week on why I don’t have a photo.

Weeks with doctor’s appointment just seem so much more monumental.  This week I had my third appointment for my pregnancy, but it was my very first appointment with a midwife. I go to Charlotte OB/GYN which is affiliated with Carolina’s Medical Center and whose office is right in front of CMC Main.  I have seriously considered using a midwife instead of an OB for several years and decided that it was definitely the right choice for me over a year ago.

If you know anything about me it’s that I like to be super prepared, so while most people probably don’t think twice about these things until they’re actually pregnant, I’ve been thinking about this stuff for years.

At the doctor’s appointment, Brad and I got to hear the heartbeat again.  I wasn’t really sure what would go on at this appointment, so when the midwife told me to lie back so she could put her stethescope on my stomach, I was so very happy.  The baby’s heartbeat was 166 beats per minute — 16 beats faster than last time. I love hearing that little rapid thumping.

Symptoms:
This week most of my symptoms eased off a bit. But there was this one day where I felt just awful.  My head pounded and no matter what I ate, I felt nauseous. Thanks goodness, I was able to spend most of the day in bed and even took a nap.  By 4 pm that day, I felt much much better and was able to take Rascal on a walk.  Other than that, it seems like I’m starting to get some of my energy back during the day.  However, that is only if I’ve had my newly required nine hours of sleep the night before.  If I’ve only had eight, I’m probably going to head to bed around 9 pm. I’m still waking up at least once a week and am not able to go back to sleep for several hours.  But I’m dealing with it.

Cravings:
This started last week and continued over into this week.  I crave chicken with buffalo sauce. I bought a bunch of chicken drumsticks last week and made my own buffalo sauce with a little butter and a lot of Texas Pete,  then baked them for an hour and doused them in ranch dressing I made with Chobani, skim milk, and Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix.

The need to drink milk several times a day continues as well.

I usually prefer sweeter things for breakfast over savory and this has been a theme throughout my first trimester. My breakfast of choice is a banana and peanut butter smoothie, Van’s Whole Wheat Waffles with real butter and real maple syrup, or toast with butter and honey.  It seems that I eat butter at least twice a day. I try to keep it down to just a little sliver or two each time.  In reality, I’m not eating that much extra stuff, just different stuff.

I’m perfectly okay with my eating habits right now, even though I wish I was okay with eating just a little more vegetables.  As far as aversions go, vegetables are still one of them. Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t mind vegetables mixed in to dishes with a sauce, but most of my vegetables are coming in the form of tomatoes — mainly tomato sauce and salsa.

Funny enough, I have no real desire to eat nut butters except for the peanut butter in my smoothies.  The though of eating actual peanut butter on bread or anything else makes me very thirsty. No appeal whatsoever.

Fun Stuff:
A lot of my maternity clothes have came in by now and it’s been really fun to go through them when they arrive on my doorstep. I also went shopping with my sister-in-law (my brother’s wife) this past weekend to look at maternity clothes.  I didn’t buy much but it was just fun to do something with another person who is in practically the same stage of pregnancy as me (we’re due only a week a part).

We also swung by Baby’s R Us to get a gift for my cousin for her shower.  That place is so overwhelming.

I plan to register at Buy Buy Baby because I like it more than
BRU, but it’s just as overwhelming.  I’ll definitely need a plan of attack when I go to register. I wonder how soon is too soon to register.  Thoughts?
