Dressing for Comfort and Work

For my first day back at the office after a not-long-enough break, I wanted something comfy and warm.  I have plenty of things to choose from after an after-Christmas trip to the mall with my sister-in-law.  We scored some major goodies.

For me comfort is all in the material.  I used to hate hosiery, but I live in tights.  They don’t fall down around your ankles and they’re warm.  Skirts aren’t for everyone, but if they’re loose and flowy, I’m right at home wearing one. Belts, like this one, with a little bit of stretch are way more comfortable than constrictive belts.

I hate it when I want to take my belt off immediately after lunch.

Sweater: Gap about $11
Skirt: The Limited (sold out) about $20
Belt: Gap (sold out) – similar from The Limited about $15
Boots: BCBG via DSW: $75
Tights: Steinmart (sold out) – similar from Express

Similar items:

Sweater: Aubin & Wills $40
Belt: Betsy Johnson $40
Skirt: Missel Fridge $22
Boots: PacSun $50
Tights: Oasis $15

Total Price: $167

And just for fun, if you wanted to recreate this look and had an unlimited source of income, you could create the look above for a whopping $3,534.  And that’s without the tights.  Ha!

Do you pay full price for clothes?
Rarely.  I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for an article of clothing, but I bet it was for a pair of shoes.  I’m tough on shoes and I get a lot of wear out of them, so they need to be higher quality than most things in my closet.
In your opinion, are the pricier items really worth it?
In my opinion, it depends.  A nice purse you will use forever and ever? Yes.  A sweater that won’t be in style next season? Definitely no.

  1. i NEVER pay full price for clothes, unless they’re from target or somwhere else with really reasonable prices. but even then i check out the clearance rack first!

  2. I always love your fashion posts! Your outfits are always the cutest! :) I don’t like to pay full price for anything but will splurge on certain items like designer jeans or a really nice bag!

That’s really cute. I like wearing skirts too. I never thought to do short boots with them though (and I actually wondered out loud recently how people wear short boots!)

  4. I think the only time I pay full price is for special events where I need something specific and time is running out. Example- a recent, last minute trip to Vegas where I needed something to go dancing in. Nothing on sale fit right, so finally I just went with the first thing I liked. But for work essentials I usually wait until Loft has a sale.

  5. I loveee scoring good sale deals- save some money, spend more money, right?! Why get one pair of shoes when you could have two for the price of one?! Somethings I do think are worth splurging on like a designer purse or jeans, just because their quality is better and they last longer…

  6. I loveee snagging good sale deals! Save some money, spend more money, no?! I will spend more money [but not necessarily full retail price, thanks to the outlets] for certain pieces like a purse or designer jeans becuase the quality is better and they’ll last longer…
