Weekend Warrior Part 1

Have you ever heard the term “Weekend Warrior”?

Urban Dictionary has a few interesting definitions for this term, but I prefer to define it a bit differently.

Weekend Warrior: (noun) a person who plays and works really hard on the weekend so that every bit of time and space is completely filled with productivity.

Case in point — my weekend…

Saturday morning was spent kicking my last 20 mile run’s bootay.

I ran one mile to the Dowd Half Marathon, ran the half with Nicole, then ran another six miles around the Dilworth neighborhood and called it a day.  I also got to meet Lee who was in town to run the half marathon.

I’m so glad Nicole asked me to run the half with her on Friday!  I was a little apprehensive about my last 20 miler but having friends to chat with for 13 miles made it so much more bearable. Those 13 miles were actually fun!

Now there’s only two more weeks until my marathon.  Yes, you heard that right.  I did my last 20 miler two weeks before the marathon.  It was slated to be last weekend, but some quality girl time was way more important.  I recover pretty quickly from long runs, but if I’m dying on Novemeber 5th at the Savannah Rock n’ Roll Marathon, feel free to say “I told you so”.

After my run, I downed a smoothie, took a hot shower, threw on a dress, and made myself presentable for a baby shower.

The glowing mommy-to-be is Jen and if you can’t tell from her medal, the theme of the shower was running!  What could be more appropriate?

There were a lot of bloggy friends there!

Sara and I

Brittney and Erin

Katy, Nicole, and our baby shower hostess, Caitlin

We plaid a lot of fun games, some of which involved tiny little diapers…of course, this brought up every joke and play-on-words we could think of involving poop.

We never claimed to be classy, but we know how to have a good time.

But the best part was the presents.  I can’t lie, I’m a bit baby crazy right now, so watching someone receive tiny little onesies and breast milk paraphanalia is really exciting for me.

Jen made out like a bandit.

Later that evening, I met up with Jen, Lee, our husbands and another couple for dinner.  The original plan was to go to Soul, which I absolutely love.  But after two hours of waiting for a table, it was 9:30 pm, and I had not eaten anything since the 2 pm babyshower. At that point, I was  at the point of either falling asleep in my chair or eating one of our dinner guests.

Thank goodness, Brad called Bisto La Bon and they agreed to seat us immediatly.

My photos turned out a bit blurry, because when I’m so hungry I could cry, quality photography isn’t one of my top priorities.

Brad and I shared this  butternut squash soup, plus I had a few of Lee’s mussles and two pieces of bread.

Nothing but the filet mignon would do that night, so filet mignon, I ate.  It was on a bed of spinach with a demi glace.  I devoured it and my spinach completely.  The sweet potato and russet potato gratin was pretty delicious too, although the pear was a bit under-ripe.

We returned home around 11 pm, where I immediately did a face plant into the bed and slept until 7:00 am the next morning. Ah, blissful sleep.

It’s a good thing, too because my weekend was about to get even busier.  Busier than a 20 mile run and a baby shower?

Yes, indeed.

Stay tuned for a big announcement.
