I’ve learned…

I’ve learned that I need an afternoon snack and if I take it into work with me, it becomes a post-lunch snack.  So I’ve started leaving my snack in the car so I can eat it on my long commute home.

I’ve learned that I’ll feel better if I just workout so even though I was super exhausted after work due to poor sleep the past few nights, I suited up anyway and went on a run with Brad in the dark.

I’ve learned that having a supportive running partner makes a world of difference. I probably wouldn’t have ran very far if I didn’t have someone encouraging me the whole time and giving me a high five when we rounded the crest of a gigantic hill.

I’ve learned that there is a time to push myself and a time to give myself a break. Brad and I agreed on a seven mile run, but I felt so tired and like I was running in slow motion.  We cut it short and ended up doing about five miles total.

I’ve learned that keeping semi-prepared meals in the house mean I’m much more likely to eat a healthy dinner.

I turned this past weekend’s fish tacos into fish taco salad.  Ingenious, I know, but what else can you do with taco ingredients? Taco soup?

I toasted a corn tortilla under a broiler and layered my taco salad with romaine, spinach, mango salsa, red snapper, shredded cheese, avocado, a dollop of Greek yogurt and pieces of my tortilla.  Mmmmm.

I’ve also learned that even when I’m completely exhausted, I can still find excuses to stay up, but I’m not doing myself any favors. I finally made it to bed around 9:45.  I know that sounds early, but I get up at 5:30 am or earlier most mornings.

What do you know, but have to reinforce for yourself? The “exercise even when you don’t feel like it” one is a hard one for me.

  1. Its so great to have the support too! We need a partner who does that. I love what you have learned, and i LOVE Brad’s hair. Your hubs and my hubs need a fro face off!
    hehe. :)

  2. Aw, you are so lucky that Brad is able to run with you (ESPECIALLY at night!) My boo unfortunately has really bad arches that has led to Achilles tendon issues, so he is unable to run. I wish he could, though!

  3. The taco salad looks delicious. I always end up eating tacos with a fork anyway, why not start out like that.
I learned that when I don’t want to make lunch, breakfast for lunch is just as filling.

  4. I am all about semi-prepared meals/cooking too! And I need an afternoon snack as well. Speaking of which – its time!

  5. Having a supportive running partner is definitely super key… and I loved that you listened to your body and cut it short. I’m sure you still felt fantastic afterwords… who cares about those 2 miles you didn’t do?!
    The taco salad looks delicious!!
I’ve learned recently that it’s ok to make a sandwich or something from the freezer if I don’t feel like cooking. It’s still healthier than eating out (and cheaper) and not every meal needs to be fit for a gourmet magazine! We all need to give ourselves breaks.

  6. Amen about semi-prepared meals… I’ve learned that one the hard way this week. I didn’t do good prep work and now I’m paying for it! sigh… :P

  7. I have a hard time not eating my snack right after lunch too. Leaving it in the car is a good idea.

  8. I’m a big believer in exercising even when I don’t feel like it because when I do I always feel much better after-wards. Even if I can’t manage to do the workout as well as I normally would, having moved my body helps me feel better mentally and physically.
